2012 Goals & Aspirations

Hey Ya'll. I hope that you all have been having a blast this holiday season! I have definitely been blessed to spend time with loved ones, comfort many, and bless others. I am so grateful! Now the time has come for me to decide on what my plan is for 2012. It's definitely time to leave some stuff behind and pick up more as I move into this new year. I already know that 2012 will be crazy to say the least: I'm getting married, me and my soon-to-be hubby are looking into purchasing our first home, and our 5 yr. old son will be starting kindergarten (NOOOOOO!). But even aside from all that, I have more ventures planned! Check out my goals & aspirations for the next year below!

Happy Holidays!!!!

Happy Holidays!!!!
This weekend, remember the reason for the season (Christ is Born!), and remember that it is better to receive than to give....give than to receive (*chuckle*), and that this time is a special time of year that is meant to be spent with loved ones, regardless of if it's your significant other, your family, your extended family, or......just you and the love that you have for yourself (that's o.k. too!). Be thankful for all that you have and have been given, as well as all that you don't have and have NOT been given. It's not at all chance. Happy Holidays and I hope you enjoy!

Tis the Season to be Jolly! - I'm a Natural Black Girl's FIRST Giveaway! - Winner Announced!!!!!

First,
I would like to thank all of the wonderful people across the blogosphere who allowed me to show my giveaway to the mountaintops LOL! It is just WAY too many names to name to be able to list them here, but they know who they are....THANK  YOU! Nevertheless, we I (I don't really know why I keep wanting to say WE as if there are multiple editors to this blog LOL!) did not receive many entries, which was possibly due to the fact that there were so many REQUIRED criteria. LOL! You had to have both a Facebook AND Twitter account, which many of my readers or passerby's don't have.

Well, I sincerely apologize for making the criteria so stringent, and will take this issue into consideration for the remainder of our giveaways! I will probably only use that criteria in the scenario that our giveaway prize is HUGE, maybe when I get on CurlyNikki's level and start giving away Christian Louboutins!!!!
******************************************************************
So, you all are probably tired of hearing me jabber away, so without further ado, the winner is shown below by show of the rafflecopter results below!!!!

23 Adult Truths (***WARNING*** FUNNY STUFF AHEAD)

Happy Holidays!!!

I was searching through my Facebook news feed, and happened to come upon something seriously funny (just because it was seriously true...) and thought that I would share it with you all and hope that you get a laugh out of it, as well.

Wash Day Details!

Hey Lovelies!

I am back on to share the details of my most recent wash day experience. This time around, I chose to indulge in my Black Friday goodies from Oyin Handmade (review coming soon!)

For this washday, I had decided to skip the prepoo/pre-detangle, just to see how my hair would fare without it. I'll get into the details of that fiasco later. Anywhoo, I did this because recently, I decided to go through and play with my regimen to figure out what steps were necessary and which were not, and this was the first thing to go.

My Next Hair Style!

Ya girl, iknowlee on YouTube hooked me up on the inspiration tip with one of her latest videos. This is DEFINITELY what I will be rocking up until Christmas time. Thank ya, gurlie!!!!!

Wash Day Tomorrow!!!!

Hey Lovelies,
I haven't been on my usual posting frenzy lately due to the Christmas Season craziness. I am also planning my wedding (April 14, 2012) which is adding to the craziness. But, I do know one thing: It's time for this hair to be done! My hair has been in this style for 2 weeks. It. is. time.

Who Defines Beauty?

I was directed to this Huffington Post article by way of Tomiko Frasier Hines (@GoddessTomiko) on Twitter. In it, it summarizes Aflonbladet's article coverage H&M's confession that they use computer-generated bodies and attach the heads of actual model's in some of their e-commerce print ads.

I Just Had to Share!

Eventually, you guys will discover that I am a fan of music. I actually like ALL types of music, including R&B (Bey is MY girl!), Modern Soul, 70's/80's music, Gospel, Christian Alternative, Country (Shania & Faith are my girls), club music, Hip Hop. I'm all over the globe.

But there are some songs that transcend genre and just cut to the very soul. And this is one of them. Enjoy.

I'm a Natural Black Girl's Wish List

Hey Lovelies!!!!
With Christmas season arriving, I decided to help my fiancee' out, and give him a little something that will let him in on the things that I would absolutely loveeeeee to have (someday). Now, eventually, I'm going to purchase these items regardless. But, why not distribute my wishes to whomever might possibly be willing to buy them for me? LOL! I thought since I made a whole visual board, that I might as well share it with my readers.

AfricanExport Launches Blog!

Lovelies,

I'm not sure if I've mentioned on this blog that I am addicted to natural hair YouTube videos. I watch them daily, and I absolutely love watching them do hair as I do MY hair.

Anywhoo, I have my list of favorites, and among them is definitely Ya Girl (My Girl....Errbody's Girl!) AfricanExport! ("The realest channel on the TUBE! - HA!) Her channel contains endless amounts of tips and info relating to natural hair, beauty, make-up, fashion, and even important matters within our communities (she also sings!). She has been mentioning that she had plans to launch her blog, and the time has come! I am definitely subscribing immediately. Nothing tickles my fancy more than a promising  blog - and her blog is definitely that.

Be sure to check it out, support her and subscribe!

Be sure to tell her I'm a Natural Black Girl sent ya!

Pond's Flawless White Advertisement.....FAIL!

Saw this video posted on For the Fabulous & Frugal

Ok......Are you freaking kidding me???? :-O @ the freeze photo comparison at the end, reinforcing the true "moral" of this advertisement. I'm seriously starting to believe the notion that some companies make ad's like this not because they actually believe ish like this is o.k., but because they know it's not, and will cause a stir, inadvertently attracting attention to their product. Whatever it takes to sell your brand, huh? Okayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy....
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ETA: So, I finally watched the entire series (oh and btw, this isn't new. It's almost 4 years old and was based upon a case study) Read/watch about it here. So....are you REALLY marketing that dude ONLY recognized that he was in love with you when you started to apply a lightening creme to your skin???...That's how shallow love is nowadays???? SMH.
What are your thoughts?

Day 28 Assignment: Share a picture of you from last year and now. How have you changed since then?
November 28, 2011
November 18, 2011
Wow! No hair.....LOTS of hair! I have grown SO much in my natural journey and it's truly unbelievable. I remember a year ago thinking, "I'm tired of this short hair! I can't do anything with it!". My two-strand twists looked like baby dreads and my fingercoils were too scalpy. I got so fed up that I decided to just co-wash and wear a shrunken afro all of the time. It feels like it happened overnight, but the point came where I could no longer do that - without a tangled up nightmare come wash day. Huh? When did this happen? I had to begin washing my hair in twists and prepoo to avoid tangles galore with wet hair. I switched from went detangling to dry - it works better for this length. I have scoured tons of blogs and have learned so much about my hair, it's crazy. I still have not figured everything out, but by gosh - I'm darn close. I can't wait to see the progress that I make in the next year. I hope that you stick around with me to see!

What have you learned this past year? Share!

MopTop Maven

Source

So, as many of you know, alot of ISH went down concerning this very well-known blogger/vlogger/store-owner late last year/early this year. I'm not 100% sure of the details, however, it is suspected (by many), denied (by some), that the face behind the screen was involved in scamming customers out of monies paid to her for products sold by her jewelry company and suspected natural hair product company.

Now, I was JUST getting into the natural hair forums/blog scene around this time, so I am limited on what happened, who did what, exactly what went down. Perhaps it's for the best for me not to know. However, I was on YouTube yesterday, looking for videos describing 4b styles. Appropriately, some of MopTopMaven's videos popped up. They intrigued me so (she is beautiful and so is her hair!!!!), that I went to her channel and scanned every. single. posted. video. that she had.

Shortly after, I decided to view her blog. What's the word I'm looking for.....addicted? LOL! Her YTube channel did her blog NO justice, at all. I went back to her very first post, and went all the way to the end (I'm in the middle as I'm posting this). I have not went far enough to view the ensuing drama, but her blog...her blog...her blog....it's amazing. It's actually one of my favorite blogs so far, amongst BGLH, Curly Nikki, and others.

Moptop's blog is laden with quality photos and descriptions of glorious outfits with crazy style (and also a Vintage Nut!!! - which I love!), awesome hair information and techniques (with videos to go with), inspirational and creative DIY projects with the punch to get your juices flowing and encouraging result photos (some projects are just awe-inspiring), decadent meal recipes, and the list goes on. And what I found to be the most alluring? The aura of being human. Her descriptions of the struggles that she has had with her natural hair texture, bad hair days, feelings of lost motivation, etc. along with inspirational quotes, posts with encouraging words of inspiration and self-worth,.....the blog is almost.....nahhh....I won't say it. LOL!

Whatever happened with who debacle between her and her business....it is TRULY unfortunate. I will be so hurt once I reach the end of her posts. So much creativity. So much inspiration. So much natural hair (lol). So much....so much....potential. To be something much greater. It is truly unfortunate.

Only God knows the truth. But I only have one request of Him in regards to this blog. I would like for Him to lead me to a replacement. LOL! Yall, I am subscribed to over 100 natural hair blogs, and this one has been my favorite. Whyyyyyyy?!?!?! This is such a FAIL!

Luckily, I am a very FERVENT reader of a blog that reminds me of hers (or it could be vice versa, not sure):

Source
MeechyMonroe's blog is also comprised of quality photos of her day-to-day experiences. She lets us into her personal life with her, her sisters (MsVaugh, Kay, and Alex) and the rest of her family. She also participates in lots of events geared toward beauty and natural hair. I love attending events, however, many are not held nearby, so I love it when bloggers post event photos and described what went on.
So for now, I will be awaiting dear Meechy to post...post...and post again!!!! Check her out, you won't be disappointed!!!

Day 29 Assignment: In this past month, what have you learned?

Hmmm.....good question. I think that I have learned more of what I want this blog to become. I want it to become a combination of my personal musings along with my natural hair. Every post might not be about natural hair, but about my life with it. I love sharing where I go, what I am doing, who I am with, and so on. LOL! Not enough for folks to come searching for me at my house, but you get what I mean. I love the path that my life has taken, and it's so nice to have an outlet for everything and to share it with others. I hope that this blog becomes something much greater than just me posting stuff about my hair (not knocking anyone who does this - I love natural hair blogs), but I want to do something different.

Have you had any epiphany's in the past month? Please share it with us!

Day 25 Assignment: What do you think about your friends?

"Friends". I don't toss around this term loosely. A friend is someone that I can truly be myself with. No holds barred. A friend is someone that I feel has my back in times are hardship, even when I have nothing to offer them in return, even the friend that they're giving to me. A friend is someone that will be honest with me when they feel I'm wrong. They're not afraid to tell me, "I think you're wrong", and not just, "ooooooo Chile, that is so true....you are soooo right". I hate that. I also think a true friend is someone that will accept my rebuke when I feel as if they are in the wrong.

I also think friends should be able to participate in meaningful and friendly debates. Just last night, me and one of my friends debated about why I favor Real Housewives of Atlanta over Basketball Wives. She favored Basketball Wives over Real Housewives of Atlanta. The conversation got heated, but no mean and spiteful words were said and the conversation went well (unlike last time LOL! - long story). I appreciated that.

Lastly, friends are not affected by distance or time. Just because we live 700 miles apart....it doesn't matter, we're still friends. We still benefit the other in different ways. And just because I haven't talked to you in 6 weeks, doesn't make our friendship any less stronger.

That being said, I only have a handful of friends. And their awesome. We've been through the good...and the bad and pain and heartache. But the joys and happy times far outweight those times, and even still, we grew in the bad times.  I love them and will always have their backs!!!!

How do you define the word "friend"? Share!

Day 25 Assignment: What would we find in your bag?

This actually looks ALOT like my purse.

- At least 2 pens
- At least 1 tube of some type of Bath & Body Works lip balm, gloss, etc.
- My Clinique Cream-to-Power foundation compaq
- My Blush brush along with my Covergirl Cranberry Trio Blush Palette
- My Evo 4G
- A phone charger (for use in emergencies...lol)
- My red Nine West wallet.
- My Zune mp3 player
- Shamefully, I usually have tons of old, wrinkled up store receipts
- Bobby Pins (LOL!)
- Sometimes you might find a water bottle or bottle of diet soda
- Some type of gum
- Sticky notes from where I wrote non-work-related things-to-do at work and put them in my purse to review later
- Various amounts of change, depending on the day. LOL!
- My Delta Sigma Theta Purse Magnet (holds my purse on whatever mechanism that can hold it - very convenient as I'm trying to learn how to stop putting my purse on the floor)

Day 24 Assignment: Write a letter to your parents.

Dear Daddy,
Daddy. Daddy. Daddy. LOL! We have had an interesting relationship throughout my life. It's funny because we are VERY different, yet SO MUCH alike. When I was younger, you gave me life. You spoiled me to no end by working yourself to death in order to get me and my sisters every. single. thing that we could ever want. I remember that Christmas when we got our first Playstation. Along with Final Fantasy VII. Man, that was the best gift ever. Me and my sisters will never know what you guys went through in order to supply us with the best Christmas's ever. But I am thankful...so thankful to God that I had parents (and especially a Dad - many aren't as fortunate) who cared about our wants, and not just our needs.

Daddy, I might have voiced how upset I was at one point in time that we didn't get as much personal time as we would have liked. But now, since I've had Xavier, I understand the hardships that come along with time/money and deciding which one they NEED more. I know that you would have LOVED to be at all of my concerts and competitions, etc., BUT, if you didn't work that extra 5 hours at work, that I might not been able to participate in alot of those things, or we might not have got all those AMAZING Christmas's. I am so....so...grateful.

Children are such a hard...hard...task in life. You want to understand and appreciate your love, your effort, your pain and hardships, but the truth is....children are VERY impatient and very selfish (especially those who haven't had to work hard or had any experiences in which they have had to grow up fast). And even in teenage years and young adulthood, children can be very.....hard on parents. But just know, that in due time, they will understand and appreciate it all. If anyone knows, I know now (Xavier has taught me that).

You are THE Dad. I have seen none more dedicated to taking care of their family in the midst of the need to take care of themselves. You will kill yourself, before your family sees pain and hardships. You try so very hard to take on the heavy burden, so that the family will not have to. So admirable.

But you know what, this is your season, and AMAZING things are in store for you. Before the year is over, you will know, that a change is coming. I am soooo happy for the future that God has laid out before you and my mother (as well as both of my sisters). The time has come for you to rest. And God says very soon.....you will rest. Thank you. So much.

I love you.

Day 24 Assignment: Write a letter to your parents.

Mom,
What can I say. You're amazing. You've lost 3 kids and a family member in one day. Who can survive that? Who can get up the next day and say, "I have to move on". I still admire you for that. I know that you know that you were only able to survive because God was carrying you and guiding your footsteps, regardless of where your relationship with Him was. Even in the midst of all of your downfalls, you were still able to find love and a family. You found my father who was, fortunately, a God-fearing man. He helped you re-build the happiness that you had lost. He helped you rebuild the pieces of your life and made you a better person. He willingly became a father to the child that remained. Thank God for him.

Even in the midst of your educational struggles, you have risen above and have claimed victory over all of those that said that you couldn't do it - including yourself. You're the best, and you've always given us your best. What else could I ask for? I am so grateful to God for giving you to me as a Mother. We were made for each other. You've always supported me in everything that I do (except for that one time....LOL!) and you truly don't know what kind of an impact that that has had in my life. Knowing that YOU would be there with a willing ear. Knowing that you would be there to give me advice, support, love, all in one sitting. You are an amazing woman and don't let ANYONE make you feel otherwise.

Submit yourself to what you know within your heart that you were meant to become. An awesome woman of God and an inspiration to the world. I believe in you, because I know that God has called you to amazing position. What EXACTLY that position is....I don't know. Only you have the key to that question. I hope to be able to do as much for you when you need me, that you were able to do for me throughout my life.

I love you.

Black Friday Buys!!!

Hey Lovelies!!!!

I hope you all have been having fabulous holiday mini-vacations like me! I love waking up after 9a.m., not having a care in the world, and being able to do absolutely whatever I'd like. I also like being able to spend time with family and just time to be able to do the things that I never have time to be during the work week.

On the meat of this post, though: BLACK FRIDAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY!!!!

So, my Black Friday story is a good one:
My blacklisted stores were Wal-Mart (bought SO much stuff) and Best Buy. I want to purchase a LeapFrog LeapPad for my 5 year-old son.

During the past week, I had been able to find the pink versions EVERYWHERE, but seemingly, the greens ones have been sold out all within a 300mi radius -_-. So...I knew that this Best Buy will have them due to them being displayed in their Black Friday Ad, so I knew I had to be there. I get there around 10pm and stand in line for 2 HOURS. After being about the 100th person inside the store, I inquire to the first sales person I see about where the LeapPad is located. "Gaming". Not there. Ask someone else. "Behind the land line phones". I round the corner....see the advertisement.....along with a man...grabbing the last one...in green. *Sigh*

Alas, the search continues.

Anywhoo, in terms of natural hair, I had been debating on what I wanted to try most in combination to what sort of deals were available. I was eyeing Bear Fruit Hair conditioner (hadn't decided which one), Bee Mine Bee Hold Curly Butter and Bee Loved Hair & Scalp Moisturizer, Karen's Body Beautiful Sweet Ambrosia (and some type of hair oil), and Anita Grant Rhassoul Deep Condish Cubes.

Well, I decided to go against the Anita Grant due to shipping costs and risks with lost/damaged items (which she warns against before purchasing). As for the rest, why when I was preparing to enter my credit card information, I just got a sudden impulsed and hurriedly closed out ALL of the windows. I don't need to buy ANYTHING.

That is....until OYIN HANDMADE ran through my mind. LOL! "Hey, they have a sale going on too!" Oh yeah! So I headed on over, and luckily, their discount applied to EVERYTHING - including sample sizes. *Does the shuffle*

I ended up purchasing the following:

1 ea. grand poo bar - succulent solid shampoo $5.60
1 ea. 2oz Mini: Honey Wash $2.80
1 ea. 2oz Mini: Hair Dew $2.80
1 ea. 2oz Mini: Honey Hemp Conditioner $2.80

$14.00
Sub-Total:
$6.20
United States Postal Service (Priority Mail):

For a total of $20.20!!!!!!!!!!!!

YES! I'm excited to finally try these infamous products out and give you guys a review. Stay tuned!

What buys did you indulge in (or save in) during this Black Friday? Are you eyeing anything else? Let me know!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING!!!!!!!

Please remember the real reason for the season. To be thankful for all that you have (and all that you don't have - it's all for a reason!) I am happy to say that I have A LOT to be thankful for in this past year. I've progressed in my professional career, I've gotten engaged - and not just to anyone, but to my love, the father of my child, my best friend, to my spiritual partner, and to my soulmate, My son has made it to 5 years (some parents have not been as fortunate), I've had a spiritual enlightenment that has caused me to face my true calling in life, and God has given me the strength, knowledge, and the power to go out and claim victory on my calling, and I've also grown in my spirituality. My fiancee' has been blessed by a messenger of the Lord, my parents and my sisters are about to be truly blessed beyond all their imagination. Their lives are about to be turned upside down, and I am so happy for them, because they have struggled far too long. They have held on to God and His word and now it is time for their just reward. I'm grateful that my fiancee's family is in good health and are doing well.

I'm just thankful. VERY thankful. And I hope you are, as well. Have a blessed and prosperous day!

Day 23 Assignment: Share something you crave for a lot.

So, this could be taken two ways and I'll give an answer for both:

Tangible Crave

Toast. I know, weird, right?!! But I love it. Buttered, with some jelly *swoon* If you ever want to get me on your side....offer me a lifetime supply of buttered toast with my choice of jelly (on the side - sometimes I just want some buttered toast nix jelly). It's just...heavenly

Abstract Crave
Doing something that I love doing for the rest of my life. I am currently pursuing my dream of becoming a special events planner. It's crazy because I grew up knowing that I wanted to be an electrical engineer. But I think it was the one thing I knew I could do, and succeed at, and it would help me have a better life. I would be financially independent. Now that I have achieved at beginning in that career field, I have found that I'm still missing something - that something is passion. I have a passion for people - creating masterpieces for others in the form of their dream vision. Hopefully, I will be fully certified and running my business by this time next year! Wish me luck!

What are your craves?

IANBG Review:
When I first used this product, it was in combination with the Kinky Curly Curling Custard. I was attempting to do a Wash-n-Go. Well, let's just say.....FAIL! So much of a fail, that I have yet to use the curling custard again in fear of a repeat fiasco. Problem #1 was that I was trying to define a curl pattern that I didn't have. My hair is very coily, but the strands are also very THICK, which makes it VERY hard to weigh down. The only product that I have used that has been able to lay my hair down is Shea Moisture Purification Masque. Problem #2 is that I might not have used the appropriate application method. I have read that there is an art to applying this stuff which includes a mix of applying to soaking wet hair, rinsing, and whipping the hair back and forth. Anywhoo, even if I had the application method down, I still don't think I would have got the weighed down curls due to Problem #1.

Soon after, I just decided to try the Knot Today alone as a leave-in conditioner. Well, I had co-washed my hair (I had a TWA then), and got out of the shower and towel-dried my hair. Afterwards, I took a quarter-sized amount and applied it to my entire head. 'Wait a minute now.....my hair, feels.... so.... SLIPPERYYYYYYYY!!!!' - I blame this on the marshmallow root.  I'm so serious you guys....for the first time in my natural hair journey, I was able to successfully......FINGERCOMB!!! Previously, there was no freaking way I was able to run my fingers through my hair sucessfully even ONE time. My tangles would somehow be solidified and would NOT come undone without the (infamous) Tangle Teezer - which I have retired. After that incidence, I did not use it for awhile, due to me thinking that I needed a thicker leave-in. However, this was before I had discovered the leave-in+Sealant+Styler method. Once discovering this method and the wonders it does for my hair, I decided to go back to using KCKT as my primary leave-in conditioner. It makes my hair easier to detangle, it has decrease the amout of breakage that I see, and I have an overall easier time styling.

IANBG Rating:
Moisture:  **** (4 stars - It does the trick for a base moisturizer!)
Slip: ***** (5 Stars - Cah-razy Slip)
Compatibility: **** (4 Stars - I have used it with a variety of products and no issues yet!)

IANBG Review:
The first time I used this product, I was amazed in so many different ways. The product is thick, almost like greek yogurt. The smell resembles bananas, which took me completely off guard. I usually don't like banana-smells (popsicles, ripe bananas, now and laters, etc.), however, in this product....I actually like it! I used it as a deep conditioner post washing with Eden Body Works Shampoo and Conditioner. When I applied it to my hair...I was flabbergasted. This stuff has so. much. slip. it's ridiculous. Heck, I was planning to just leave it in for about 45 minutes and then detangle after rinsing. But the slip was too good to waste! I began detangle, and whereas it usually takes me about 2-3 hours to detangle, I detangled in an hour and a half with this product!!! (I've gotten it down to a lower time by trial and error, but this was a feat!). After detangling, I rinsed it out (my hair was SO moisturized), and got to styling my hair in medium-sized twists for an updo, something similar to this:

The following morning, my head was.....ABLAZE! My scalp was itching something FIERCE. I had never experienced anything like this, especially after JUST washing my hair. Something was fishy! The only addition to my regimen had been the masque. So I went to the ingredients and inspected. AHA! This product contains clay. The directions instructed one to leave product on hair for 5-30 minutes. (NOT an hour and a half) I could not find anything online to back up my theory, but I think I made the mistake of allowing the clay to somewhat dry and deposit onto my scalp. I thought I had washed it all out, but obviously not, causing my scalp to flare up due to the leftover, dried up residue.

I decided to test out my theory. The itchies were so bad, that the next day, I took the twists out, re-washed my hair, and reapplied the clay again. This time, I only let it sit for 30 minutes. Afterwards, I rinsed and detangled while styling into twists. The morning after, I had NO itchies, and my hair was nice and moisturized. I was sort of disappointed that I would not be able to use this as a detangler since it was so slippery, but it DOES deliver on the deep conditioning, too. I have used this (in combination with coconut oil, olive oil) as my staple deep conditioner ever since and I LOVE it!

IANBG Rating:
Moisture:  **** (4 stars - *Swoon* however I do add a bit of olive/coconut oil for deeper penetration)
Smell: **** (4 Stars - A first for me to like banana smells - it does not linger!)
Detangling/Slip: *** (3 Stars - Slip was amazing - but wasn't applicable to me due to the limited sitting time)
Overall: ***** (5 Stars - Definitely on my list of favorites!)

Have any of you tried this product? What was your take on it?

Product Review - Tangle Teezer

Hello Lovelies!!!!

I am bringing another product review to you ladies because I know yall want to hear good things to encourage you to buy (-or- NOT to buy)! LOL!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
TANGLE TEEZER

Price: $9.99 via Sally's Beauty Supply

What Tangle Teezer says about this product...
Tangle Teezer Original professional detangling hairbrush is loved by hairdressers and used in professional hair salons. It's a super smooth operator that works the minute hair is lathered and rinsed. Glides through wet, vulnerable and colour treated hair with no pulling, tugging or yanking. Hair peace at last!

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
IANBG Review:
Womp. Womp. Womp. How disappointing. When I rushed to Sally's to purchase my (and another friend's) hot off the press Tangle Teezer, I was excited. I had watched the numerous YouTube videos that had declared this tool the Detangling Master. I had even watched it perform as it had promised. I pulled it out of the case, and (as with watching the YTube videos) found it odd that they didn't think it was worth adding a handle. Anywhoo, I had washed/conditioned my hair (can't remember the duo, but whatever it was it was a solid regimen), followed by a deep condition. I took a medium section of hair and began to comb. In 30 seconds (tops), that hair was smooth....detangled...and twisted (*gasps*). It was true. It was the detangling master. I had spent hours...and hours using regular wide-toothed combs, just to be whipped by them and lose insane amounts of hair due to breakage. I had tried the 'soaking with conditioner' method, which ended in failure. And here I have this itty bitty ole brush laughing at whatever tangles were there.

-_- Way too good to be true. I only used it 4 times over the span of about 2 months before I noticed the bushy ends and massive tangles on the ends. I attributed it to an imbalance in the PH of my hair. Therefore, I  tried using some of Kimmay's Leave-In recipe...to no avail. I eventually broke down and trimmed my hair (ooohhhh what a mess - that's for another post). Now, I'm not 100% sure that the tangles were the result of my Tangle Teezer. Why? Because I hadn't had a trim since BC'ing, and I had been natural for about 8 -or- 9 months. I had also not been paying attention to the PH of the hair products that I had been using.

But aside from that, I began to notice MANY naturals complaining about seeing lots of split ends and knots after several uses of the Tangle Teezer (and it being the only change in their regimens). Hmm??? Coincedence? I don't know, but the Tangle Teezer has been retired. I still have it in my cubby, but I will probably never use it again, except in emergency situations (i.e.  Thie >< close to BC'ing all over again due to frustration with tangles).

IANBG Rating:
Ease of Use:  *** (3 stars - No handle! Slippery if using with loose products)
Detangling Power: ***** (5 Stars - Definitely makes tangles look like itty bitty weak particles of existence)
Hair Safety: ** (2 Stars - not certain, but definitely not about to experiment to find out)
Durability: *** (3 Stars - The bristles did begin to bend after 4/5 uses)
Overall: ** (2 Stars - I shouldn't have to damage my hair in order to detangle it - makes no sense)

Have any of you tried this product? What was your take on it?
***DISCLAIMER: I purchased this product with my own money. I was in no way compensated or contacted by Herbal Tangle Teezer to provide this review. All comments are of my own honest opinion and are based on MY hair and its reaction to the products.

Day 22 Assignment: Share what makes you different from everyone else.

Hmmm...this is some critical thinking right here!!! LOL!

I think I'm different from everyone else because God says so:

Psalm 139:13-16
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them."

Jeremiah 1:5
“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you; I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Now, I know these verses don't necessarily speak to me being necessarily unique, but I do believe that God made us unique and different. There is no one on this earth that is 100% identical to anyone else. Twins may look alike (maternal), but they might be exact opposites in personalities.
I am unique because God made me that way.
