Day 21 Assignment: Share a picture of something that makes you happy.

Man....so many things make me happy! But I guess this one would be fitting for my blog:

Day After BC - July 21, 2010

1st BlowOut - October 1, 2011 (14 Months 100% Natural)
1st Flatiron - October 1, 2011 (14 Months 100% Natural)

Yeah...that makes me kind of happy. When I was relaxed, I was so darn ignorant to natural haircare. I'm not saying this is how all relaxed women are. I know that's definitely not true. But that's how I was. I would cut my hair almost every year, due to breakage and thinning spots, in hopes that if I started over with a clean slate, it would just...grow. I just thought that my hair was naturally weak. Only after I began transitioning did I uncover the true reasons for my unhealthy hair. I had VERY unhealthy habits. If you ever read my hair story (Part I and Part II), you'll find out that I used heat on my hair every. single. day. I never knew it was unhealthy. *shrug* I did not grow up in a household where haircare was taught.

So when I chose to transition, I made a goal to find out how to care for my hair, relaxed or not. I honestly think that if I were to ever relax again (which I never will - that much I know for sure), I would be able to grow my hair long and healthy. But it feels so good to know not only did I learn to care for my hair, but I've learned so much more than that. I've learned to love ME - including my natural hair. The pictures above are a testament to that. And that makes me VERY happy.
